REGULAR RAIL LINK BETWEEN ANTWERP AND ANDERNACH
The Andernach Container Terminal is connected to the seaports of Antwerp and Rotterdam by inland barges. Beginning in January 2018, our partner Haeger & Schmidt Logistics GmbH has expanded their train connections between the Seaport of Antwerp and the trimodal intermodal terminal in Andernach.
With their Middle Rhine Flanders Express (MFE) scheduled train services, our partner Haeger & Schmidt Logistics’ Intermodal Division offers a direct block train connection from Andernach to Antwerp v.v. with 2 departures per week.
The train is loaded at Andernach’s intermodal terminal every Wednesday, so that outgoing deliveries to Antwerp’s mega terminals can take place as early as the following day. On Friday, the train returns once again from Antwerp to Andernach. Thus, the train arrives in Andernach on a Saturday and starts into the new week, allowing it to once again be unloaded and reloaded in Antwerp on the following Monday. This in turn allows for several thousand trips by truck to be avoided along the highly congested routes of Belgium and Germany.
For volumes imported from the Seaport of Antwerp, in particular, free capacity is still available thanks to this newly expanded rail service. If interested, you can find more information about the usage fees of the port’s railway line here and contact the Port of Andernach for any enquiry.
